Day Forty-Six, 2025
Gaining confidence in the kitchen
As a mum of 3 and a wife of one man who likes to eat things, he likes, regularly life can get a bit basic in the kitchen - especially when I like to try new things but I am not a naturally gifted cook. Additionally I like the challenge of trying new things but my nose has never worked well and I tend to over season with salt. Let's just say I've made a few dinners that have not met with glorious acclaim.
Also, I get nervous when I cook for people outside of the immediate family. So I have trouble eating and I'm sure that everyone is just being polite when they eat what I've cooked.
That's all stuff I need to work on - plus I've started doing my experiments just for myself and offering a taste to the family instead of making the new thing I'm trying the only option for everyone.
Tonight was a lentil bolognese experiment (from Desiree Neilsen's Good For Your Gut cookbook) over a thick noodle and pizza made for the family and middle's boyfriend. This situation a few years ago would have me ordering pizza for them and experiment for me but tonight I think I had a win. My family ate mushrooms.... that is huge (but the mushrooms were cut very small.
Mise en place was the secret to not burning, this Lodge pan (that I love) was the vessel & these Delverde noodles were the perfect carrier.
Anyway, just nice to share a win and some possible maturing happening in me. Also pretty sure I had two actual hot flashes today so I guess confidence comes with age a less mucks givens.
Will make again!
